Stupid Question about using AC adapter outlet in a car?
I am taking a long road trip, in a BORING area. I have found a double AC adapter, that I can plug into the cigarette burning thing on the dashboard. If I were to plug, say, an Xbox 360 into it, and a small portable TV (with RCA outlets) would this kill the car batter very fast? or should I be ok for the ride?
You would have to check the wattage and add it up, if it is less than that of the inverter, you should be set. The output of most Inverters in non-sinusoidal so that could potentially damage the TV (The Xbox has a power adapter/supply that will filter it, so it will be fine). The Xbox takes 160 watts, so you will need to add the TVs wattage to that. The car battery actually powers these devices, and the alternator charges only charges the battery, and starts the engine. The engine is faster and slower at times, so the power the alternator generates varies, If the alternator powered the interior, the radio will go off at every red light, and stop sign. If you drive on the freeway it should be fine, but if you are driving in heavy traffic, or in city streets, you should unplug the inverter because that could eat away at the battery.
